A cunning con novel

Charming, manipulative con men are always cropping up in Hollywood. And sometimes in films, too. Following in the footsteps of the likes of The Talented Mr Ripley, Elaine Marie Alphin’s novel Counterfeit Son sees a young man who tries to con a family out of their dead child’s trust fund.

Warners has hired Matthew Aldrich to adapt the book, with development executive Steven Wegner shepherding it through Development Hell. “We always loved the book's premise, and Matthew has taken it to a new level," Wegner told The Hollywood Reporter, though he refused to elaborate on what that level might be. Underground, perhaps?
