Hannah Spearitt, Douglas Henshall and Ben Miller's ITV tea-time dino-slaying drama **Primeval **has been picked up by Warner Bros. for a US big-screen do-over.
The show, which airs on BBC America and Sci Fi Channel Stateside, has piqued the interest of uber producers Akiva "I Am Legend" Goldsman and Jonah Hex's Kerry Foster, who said, "There is a solid mythology to the series, but the movie has the dinosaur element of Jurassic Park and the time travel element of ‘Lost,’ and it just feels like the kind of big movie that Warner Bros. does well."
Although Goldsman is a dab hand at screenplays, having most recently written Angels and Demons with David Koepp, the team will bring in a writer to work on the big-budget **Primeval **movie.
The series, created by established Brit TV writer/producers Tim Haines and Adrian Hodges, follows a secret crack team brought in to fight off the attack of both prehistoric and futuristic creatures who appear in the UK through wormhole time portals, lead by an evolutionary scientist (Henshall). The three series so far have remained in the UK, but its producers are pitching to move the action into other countries to kickstart more action adventures, alongside the movie.
Spearitt is no stranger to filming in America, having filmed three sets of S Club 7 TV shows in Miami, LA and Hollywood and also having starred in Seed of Chucky, but whether the original cast will remain or be replaced by all-new US versions of themselves is yet to be seen.
