You may already know that this summer's War For The Planet Of The Apes takes place some time after the events of 2014's Dawn. To help bridge the storytelling gap, Boom! Studios has created a four-issue prequel comic story that will fill in some details of what was happening with Caesar (Andy Serkis) and co.
Written by David F. Walker, the story takes place across one year between the two movies, and shows how the conflict between the apes and the humans who survived the viral outbreak has been escalating. We'll learn how different factions were drawn into the war and the effect it has on Caesar.
"I'm a huge fan of the original Planet Of The Apes films, and I really love what they've done with the new series," Walker said in a statement carried by The Hollywood Reporter. "Working on War For the Planet Of The Apes not only means that I get to play around in my favorite film franchise, it means I get to contribute to what may ultimately be the best Apes film since the first one in 1968." You can see one of the covers, drawn by artist Jay Shaw, below.
The first issue will be in comics stores and available digitally on 12 July, two days before the movie hits here and in the States.
