It’s clearly Cast The Shield Veterans Day in Hollywood. Alongside news of Michael Chiklis scoring the villain role in**Parker **comes wors that fellow former dodgy copper Walton Goggins has also got a new job, albeit in a slightly more high profile project: he’s been cast in Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln.
Yes, the director has hired Goggins to play Wells A Hutchins, a progressive democrat who went against his party and voted with the president in favour of the 13th Amendment to abolish slavery.
We couldn’t be more pleased, as Goggins has been doing solid work since his impressive days as Shane on the Strike Team. He stole scenes in Predators, and will be seen in both **Straw Dogs **and Cowboys and Aliens. But it’s his performance Boyd Crowder on TV drama Justified that has topped everything else – no mean feat when you’re acting against Timothy Olyphant’s simmering lawman lead.
Goggins joins a bulging cast that including Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field, David Strathairn, Tommy Lee Jones, James Spader, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, John Hawkes, Tim Blake Nelson, Hal Holbrook and Bruce McGill.
Lincoln is now in the midst of pre-production, with shoo planned for the autumn and a release pencilled in around December 2012.
