If we were a stockbroker (braces and all), we’d be telling you to buy shares in Carey Mulligan right now. The young British actress is one of the hottest properties around, following her acclaimed breakthrough performance in Lone Scherfig’s An Education – and today she joined the cast of Oliver Stone’s keenly-anticipated sequel, Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps.
The 24 year-old will play the daughter of Michael Douglas’ predatory financial guru, Gordon Gekko, who just happens to be romantically linked with the young buck (Shia LaBeouf) that Gekko is taking under his wing/corrupting (delete as applicable). Complications doubtless ensue.
Mulligan has secured roles since An Education started the Next Big Thing buzz, including Mark Romanek’s Never Let Me Go, alongside Keira Knightley, and Brighton Rock, with Sam Riley, but this is her biggest gig to date.
Filming on Wall Street 2, which will also star Josh Brolin and Frank Langella, is due to start next month in – where else? – New York.
