The Walking Dead To End With Season 11, New Spin-Offs Planned

Given its huge success over the years, it's perhaps surprising to note that US network AMC is finally ready to put a bullet in the brain of zombie behemoth The Walking Dead. Yet it's true: Season 11 will be the show's swan song. Dead-ites need not fear, though, as the various spin-offs will continue, and new shows are in the works.

With Seasons 10 and 11 both impacted by the Coronavirus pandemic, the Dead team has had to delay the season finale. What was intended to wrap up Season 10 will now air as a special episode on 4 October, with six episodes as part of that season in early 2021. Finally, Season 11 will be split across two years, with a huge 24-episode order wrapping up in 2022.

As for the new series, Carol and Daryl fans will be happy to learn that Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride's characters are getting their own spin-off that should be on screens in 2023. Also in the works? An episodic anthology series called Tales From The Walking Dead that can explore new and existing characters, including those who have died on the show.

"The Walking Dead flagship series has been my creative home for a decade and so it’s bittersweet to bring it to an end, but I could not be more excited to be working with Scott Gimple and AMC to develop a new series for Daryl and Carol. Working with Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride has been a highlight of my career and I’m thrilled that we get to keep telling stories together."

Fear The Walking Dead will return on 11 October, and new two-season show The Walking Dead: World Beyond kicks off after that special episode on 4 October. And let's not forget that the series of TV movies based around Andrew Lincoln's Rick Grimes...
