Actor Wagner Moura already has a hefty following thanks to his roles in Brazil's Elite Squad franchise. And now he’s landed a role in a film that could launch him even further – in Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium.
Latino Review broke word that Moura has been cast as the villain, a man described as having a crazy sense of humour. He’ll appear alongside Matt Damon, Sharlto Copley and, assuming her deal has now actually gone through, Jodie Foster.
Now that we know that the film boasts a crazed villain, we can add that to the sum total of information about the film: it’s set in the future, features social themes (mixed into the plot the same way Blomkamp layered District 9) and will see Damon as an ex-con.
While The Hollywood Reporter was beaten to the punch on the casting scoop, the trade mag did nab one extra nugget of info, the fact that the film now has a release date set for March 8, 2013.
With that in mind, Blomkamp will kick off shooting this July in Vancouver.
