Hands up, history students: When was the last time someone tried to put the Robin Hood story on film? If you answered “Why, this very year, teach!” then have a gold star and go to the top of the class. Yet the fact that Russell Crowe and Ridley Scott only just shoved out the latest take on Hood isn’t stopping the Wachowskis, who have sold a modern version of the story to Warners.
Andy and Lana, who you might know as the duo behind Bound, Speed Racer and a little trilogy of movies about machines enslaving humanity, have penned a script which brings Hood (and possibly his merry band of warriors) bang up to date.
At least that’s what we think they’ve done. It’s business as usual in Wachowski-land and everything right now is wrapped in secrecy. The one thing the Heat Vision Blog did dig up was the fact that pair has approached Will Smith for the film. And hey, after famously turning down The Matrix he may very well think carefully before saying no to this one.
There’s zero schedule in place for this one yet, and that’s no surprise, given that the siblings are already co-writing/producing/ possibly directing David Mitchell adaptation Cloud Atlas alongside Tom Tykwer, with Tom Hanks, Natalie Portman and Halle Berry attached to star. Oh yeah, and they’re also still trying to drum up more financing for ambitious, controversial war/romance/ presidential assassination story**Cobalt Neural 9 **(AKA CN-9).
Can yet another new **Hood **work? We might have to wait a while to find out.
