Throughout the Mission: Impossible franchise, there have been two constants. The first is Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt, dangling from a thing and looking good doing it. The second is Ving Rhames' Luther Stickell, laughing the laugh of the one man who has survived working with Hunt for more than a decade. And now director Christopher McQuarrie has confirmed that he will return for the upcoming Mission: Impossible 5.
Welcome back, Mr. Rhames. cc: [@TomCruise](https://twitter.com/TomCruise) [@simonpegg](https://twitter.com/simonpegg) [@Renner4Real](https://twitter.com/Renner4Real) [#MI5Diary](https://twitter.com/hashtag/MI5Diary?src=hash) > > — ChristopherMcQuarrie (@chrismcquarrie) [August 16, 2014](https://twitter.com/chrismcquarrie/statuses/500756253237600257)
There has been no word yet on a plot for the film, or whether it will end up with a Ghost Protocol-style subtitle, but we do know that it will be shooting in Vienna, starting any day now, and in London. Simon Pegg will also be returning as Benji Dunn, and Jeremy Renner as William Brandt. Wallander and Hercules actress Rebecca Ferguson is also set to join them, with rumours swirling around Alec Baldwin and no word yet on whether Michelle Monaghan will return as Hunt's wife.
Christopher McQuarrie, a regular Tom Cruise collaborator, will be directing this time, following Brad Bird, J.J. Abrams, John Woo and Brian De Palma in that role. Drew Pearce wrote the screenplay.
