While most of the recent news about the Marvel / Netflix Daredevil series has been focused on show-runner Drew Goddard dropping out and Steven S. DeKnight stepping into his shoes, we have at least learned that Charlie Cox will be playing Matt Murdock in the show. Now we have an idea who one of his main opponents will be with the news that Vincent D’Onofrio has signed on to be The Kingpin.

Also known as Wilson Fisk, the moneybags troublemaker is probably the best-known adversary for the Man Without Fear, and a natural choice for the show since he doesn’t require expensive effects to bring to life.

“We’re incredibly proud to have an actor with the gravitas and versatility of Vincent joining Marvel’s Daredevil in such an integral role,” says Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television in a statement. “Wilson Fisk is an iconic villain whose cunning and power make him the dangerous equal of our hero." He was most famously played on screen by Michael Clarke Duncan in the 2003 take on the superhero.

Fisk’s interest in the heart of Hell’s Kitchen brings him into conflict with the crusading lawyer, and we’d expect Marvel to keep him around for potential future use.

D’Onofrio, meanwhile, is a veteran of films such as Men In Black,** Full Metal Jacket** and JFK, and was last seen in Escape Plan. He’ll next crop up in comedy drama The Judge alongside Robert Downey Jr. and will be another businessman in** Jurassic World**, which arrives here on June 12 next year.
