The Dilemma might not have been the biggest box office earner for either star Vince Vaughn or studio Universal, but the executives clearly want to stay working with the man, dusting off comedy script **The Insane Laws **that Sony had shoved into turnaround and developing it as a vehicle for the comedy actor.
It doesn’t hurt that the screenplay was written by Jeremy Garelick, who was responsible for The Break-Up’s script, a hefty hit for all involved.
The concept, according to The Hollywood Reporter, is based on Garelick’s own life, and follows what happens when the grown up children of two best friends fall in love, with one man’s daughter pregnant by his pal’s son. Comedy complications ahoy! At least, that’s the plan.
Sony nabbed the script back in 2009, put Garelick in the director’s chair and started to develop it, but work stalled and it was consigned to limbo. It looks like Universal will be putting Garelick back in charge and Vaughn will produce through his Wild West Picture Show Banner. Can a phone call to Kevin James or Jon Favreau be far behind? Well, given that the collaborations with those two spawned Couples Retreat and The Dilemma, we’re guessing that Vaughn might seek out someone new.
