You know, with Hallowe'en coming up next month, you’d think witches would already have enough to think about. But it appears they are in Hollywood’s crosshairs once again. On one hand, Gemma Arterton and Jeremy Renner are coming to take them down (albeit after a bit of a delay), and now the cauldron-using community may have to contend with Vin Diesel starring in The Last Witch Hunter.
No, it’s not the story of a sad little warrior left in the shop after all his crone-killing friends are bought up by death-happy kiddies. The script, which Cory Goodman has written, finds one of the last remaining witch hunters in his family (Diesel) doing what he does best: basket weaving hunting witches.
This one has been bubbling alongside eye of newt for at least two years since Goodman pitched it to Summit (now part of the Lionsgate-Summit powerhouse) and Timur Bekmambetov hopped aboard to produce and possibly direct. He eventually opted to hunt vampires instead and currently Breck Eisner is the man with the megaphone.
Diesel hasn’t made a deal yet, but he’s definitely in negotiations. He's recently been busy making England's streets 39% less safe filming Fast Six, which will screech into our cinemas on May 24 next year, and also has another Riddick outing on the way.
