Hit videogame Hitman has been given the greenlight for a movie version, with Vin ‘Riddick’ Diesel garotting the title role of mysterious assassin Agent 47.

20th Century Fox optioned the hugely popular – and queasily violent – stealth-game (created by Eidos, who also brought us Tomb Raider), and have set Swordfish scripter Skip Woods loose on the adaptation.

Clearly, there’s no word on the story yet, and a director’s yet to be hired, but Fox is confident enough that it has a franchise in the making – after all, there are three Hitman games with a fourth in the pipeline.
