It looks like it’s back to the casting lists for Universal and the producers behind Snow White and the Huntsman, as negotiations with Viggo Mortensen to take over the role have apparently broken down and he’s wanting to move on to other, greener, (Super?) pastures.
Yes, though he’d been formally in talks through the end of Januaryuntil just recently, the back-and-forth came to nought because the two sides just couldn’t come to terms. In fact, the negotiations became so strained that Mortensen seriously started to entertain other offers, which has led to a spate of rumours about him possibly playing the villain in Zack Snyder’s Superman.
It remains to be seen whether Joe Roth, director Rupert Sanders and the rest of the Huntsman team can lure him back, or whether he’s ditching the idea for good.
If he does finally turn them down, it’s an annoying glitch for a film that has been stealthily setting itself up as the first of the current crop of fairytale flicks (and specifically Snow White-based films) to actually get shooting. Kristen Stewart is on board to play a more kick-ass snow than usual and Charlize Theron is ready to play the evil queen.
