The idea of giving the age-old Robin Hood story a futuristic makeover is not exactly a new one; it's been floating around Hollywood since at least 2009. 300 producer Gianni Nunnari's company has now hired effects supervisor Hasraf ‘HaZ’ Dulull to direct its take.

Dulull, who has worked in effects and pre-visualisation on the likes of 10,000 BC and The Dark Knight, has established him as a director to watch through short films, including Sync (which you can see below) and Project Kronos, which he's been busy turning into his full-length debut, The Void.

As for the Hood idea, the pitch is setting the story in a dystopian London where the hero must restore hope to the capital's embattled population. It'll probably be set just after Britain actually withdraws from the EU. Comic book writer Tony Lee has written the latest draft of the script.

“HaZ brings the grounded realistic approach to the world depicting technology and people in a not too distant dystopian London” Nunnari tells The Hollywood Reporter. We'd guess that will see Robin firing darts from a high-tech bow while his enemies use drones to track him down. Nunnari wants the film in production next year.
