Update:** **Well, that didn't take long. The project has blown past the $2 million target in a matter of hours. “My mind is blown. I’ve been fantasizing about this taking big and had to tell myself, ‘Stop it, Rob, you’re being silly. You’re setting yourself up for disappointment,’” the Mars creator tells EW. “And now today has exceeded the wildest pipe dream I let myself entertain. Holy cow. We better make a good movie. These amazing fans have stepped up.We better deliver.” US donors will still be able to contribute as Thomas and co are promising that with a bigger budget, the movie will be even more impressive.

It's safe to say that Empire has a soft spot for teen drama-cum-mystery Veronica Mars, with it appearing on our Top 50 TV Shows list as well as our TV Shows Cancelled Before Their Time feature, so it's with a happy heart we reveal its star Kristen Bell is attempting to crowd source a film adaptation via Kickstarter.

Show creator Rob Thomas has wanted to take the much-loved cult favourite to the big screen as soon as it was canned back in 2007, but with Warner Bros. owning all the rights and feeling that it wasn't worth the investment to turn into a cinematic project, he wasn't able to pull it off - but now there's a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.

What Bell and Thomas want from the fans of the show is $2 million, donated via their entirely wonderful and totally heartfelt Kickstarter page. Presumably, this would be in addition to funds they've already gathered, as the mooted 10 year reunion storyline sounds like it'll need more than just a couple of million to make happen.

To encourage you, the more you give, the better the freebie you'll get once it's made, with everything from Ms. Bell recording a personalised outgoing voicemail message for you to being able to name a character in the movie.

There are only 30 days available before the clock runs out on this, so if you're keen on seeing Veronica, Keith, Logan and co. back on screen, be sure you have a rootle around your wallets before clicking in this direction. To tempt you to do so even more, have a look at this teaser explaining it all below.

At the time of writing, two hours after the project began, over $500,000 has been raised. If this is successful, it's going to open a whole host of new possibilities for franchises long thought lost in the mists of TV, with more than just Arrested Development gurgling back to life once more.

If you've donated, or plan to donate, let us know in the comment box below. Also, which other shows would you like to see resurrected? Click this way for some inspiration...
