Vera Farmiga's CV, already adorned her Up In The Air Oscar nomination, will soon sport another first: her directorial debut. Farmiga will be behind the camera for Higher Ground, an adaptation of evangelical memoir This Dark World: A Memoir of Salvation Found and Lost.
According to Cinematicalwho picked up a Production Weekly tweet, Farmiga will also star in the adaptation of Carolyn J. Briggs' book. It's a story of faith found and then lost again set in the Bible Belt heartland state of Iowa. Pregnant at 18 and living in a trailer, Briggs found salvation at the Fountain of Joy church in Des Moines, before coming to question its evangelical fanatism. We're calling it 8 Aisle.
Before moving on to Higher Ground, Farmiga will appear in Duncan Jones' **Moon **follow-up, Source Code, as well as popping up as Wallace Simpson in Madonna's historical-biopic-with-a-contemporary twist W.E..
