There clearly must be something to the idea for Sony's new Venom film, which aims to extend the Spider-Man franchise without having to pay fealty to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Some interesting people have been added to the cast, and now Reid Scott is in talks to join them.
Venom features Tom Hardy in the main role as journalist Eddie Brock, who in the comics is often an antagonist for Peter Parker. He ends up merging with a space symbiont, which gives him some deadly powers, though the character has sometimes been portrayed as an anti-hero instead of a villain. Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed and Jenny Slate are also in the cast, and it'll be up to writers Scott Rosenberg, Jeff Pinkner and Kelly Marcel to figure it all out.
Ruben Fleischer is attached to direct, and he has to get the movie into cinemas for a 5 October release next year. As for Scott, he'll be seen in the final season of Veep, due in 2018, and is part of the cast for indie movie Under The Eiffel Tower, which has yet to lock in a release date.
