After news broke last month that Andy Serkis, Bumblebee's Travis Knight and Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes' Rupert Wyatt were all in contention to take the directorial reins of the Venom sequel, we have a winner! Serkis is the man for the job.
Yes, after some since-deleted social media hints from star Tom Hardy, the official word is out via The Hollywood Reporter that Sony has chosen Serkis to handle the super-anti-hero sequel, taking over from the original film's Ruben Fleischer.
Plot details for the follow-up remain sealed in a container of weird goo, but it'll follow the continuing (mis)adventures of journalist Eddie Brock (Hardy) and the alien symbiote that gives him both great powers and little responsibility. The one clue to a potential narrative was the presence of Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kasady, aka Spidey villain Carnage in an end credits sting, but whether that pans out remains to be seen. Either way, the movie is still scheduled to arrive in October next year.
Serkis most recently directed Mowgli: Legend Of The Jungle.
