After leaving Veep in safe hands and turning his attention the big screen for the already-buzzed-about The Death Of Stalin, Armando Iannucci is developing a new TV series for his old home of HBO in the States. He's at work on scripts for a new show, currently titled Avenue 5.
Despite the decidedly domestic-sounding title, it'll actually blast off into space, and is set in the future. Details are still scarce at this early stage, but Deadline has heard that the setting will be a spaceship.
HBO has given the launch command for a pilot and ordered backup scripts should the series escape development's gravity pull. Iannucci plans to kick off shooting in London next year, which should mean he's able to stay at home more often than when he worked on his White House-set political comedy. Talking of, Veep just scored its latest Best Comedy Emmy Award and another Best Actress In A Comedy gong for Julia Louis-Dreyfuss. The next season will be its swan song.
As for The Death Of Stalin, the satire is due here on 20 October.
