Vaughn & Russell Meet In Old St Louis

Nailed may be dead in the water (or at least floundering and about to go under for the third time) but its director has already completed The Fighter in its wake. And it looks as if his next project is all but ready to go, with the news from Deadline that David O. Russell and Vince Vaughn are "likely" to join forces for **Old St Louis.

Vaughn would star as a travelling salesman whose life on the road distances him from his daughter, until the two reconnect and his life is changed. Chloe Moretz has been mooted as one possible contender for the daughter role, but take that with a pinch of salt, since she's almost certainly mooted as one possible contender for every thirteen-year-old girl in every script currently circulating Hollywood.

Russell would direct from his own script, and Vaughn is producing, along with his sister Victoria, under a deal the Vaughns have set up at Universal through their Wild West Picture Show production company.

After a few years of mainstream comedies (although there was a small role in Sean Penn's Into the Wild) it'd be interesting to see Vaughn sink his teeth into something a bit more off-the-wall. And if the above synopsis doesn't sound all that, bear in mind that this is David O. Russell, who brought us I Heart Huckabees, Three Kings and Spanking the Monkey, and started a sex comedy in which Jessica Biel got shot in the head with a nailgun. There must be more to Old St Louis than a moppet and her daddy. Mustn't there?

Vaughn is currently on set with Ron Howard filming** What You Don't Know** (formerly aka Cheaters), along with Jennifer Connelly, Winona Ryder and Kevin James. Where Old St Louis leaves Russell's rumoured, Natalie Portman-starring Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, remains to be seen.
