Since stepping aside from the job on X-Men: Days Of Future Past, Matthew Vaughn may no longer be directly engaged as director in any of the Fox Marvel movies. But he’s certainly staying involved, as Mark Millar has tweeted that he’ll help with the Fantastic Four reboot.
Just off the phone with Fox and some excellent news - Matthew Vaughn is producing Josh Trank's Fantastic Four reboot! > > — Mark Millar (@mrmarkmillar) [February 22, 2013](https://twitter.com/mrmarkmillar/status/305039875068014592)
Chronicle’s Josh Trank has been attached to direct for a while now, and with Millar hired last September as overall keeper of the Marvel flame for 20th Century Fox, it makes sense to have someone with directing experience liaising between him, the studio and Trank.
Though we’re 100 per cent convinced Trank can do a good job, making a good Fantastic Four film is a tricky proposition (as Tim Story, who took the first two stabs a few years ago, can attest). And with Vaughn able to provide advice and any necessary help wrangling a massive superhero adventure, it just makes us more confident.
With a 2015 release date set, we’d expect the film to push through development a little further before casting announcements are made, but Vaughn’s presence likely mean things are starting to heat up.
As for his own work, Vaughn has produced Kick-Ass 2, and is still working out what his next directing gig will be.
