Scientists have proved that whenever Vince Vaughn and Jon ‘Favs’ Favreau are on screen together, good stuff happens. Swingers – the film that launched both their careers – was, of course, so money. Made, their lesser follow-up, is still darned entertaining. And their scenes together in The Break-Up were the best thing about that movie.
So we’re delighted to announce that the BFF have signed on to star in a new comedy – written by Favs himself - called Couples Retreat. And what’s more, it will also star Jason Bateman. Now, in Empire's book, that’s pretty damned awesome.
The film which, like The Break-Up, is based on an original idea by Vaughn, will follow four couples who travel to an island resort which hosts couples’ therapy. One of the couples is genuinely there to work on their marriage, but the other three are all about the snorkelling and the sun, sea and sex. Until, that is, they discover that the therapy is compulsory…
Needless to say, hijinks ensue. And, if The Break-Up is anything to go by, a fair amount of raw, emotional, slightly misanthropic humour as well.
Faizon Love has also signed on to join the cast, which means that we have our four husbands on board. We’re sure that the wives will soon follow.
The film will be produced by Scott Stuber and directed by Peter Billingsley, who appeared in The Break-Up, and also shot second-unit on that movie, Favs’ Iron Man, and the upcoming Four Christmases, which of course is another movie to unite Favs and Vaughn on screen.
Couples Retreat (shouldn't that have an apostrophe?) is set to shoot in Bora Bora (bagsie the set visit!) and Los Angeles, starting in October, which will give Favs plenty of time to wrap before moving onto a small independent film called Iron Man 2. We’ve no idea what that’s about.
