Because of recent struggles with throat cancer, we haven't seen Val Kilmer on our screens as much as we might have liked. But now, revealing documentary Val promises to shed new light on his life and career. With the film premiering at the Cannes Film Festival, the trailer is online.
Trawling though footage shot by the actor himself through the years, the film will allow a first-hand account of his journey from making 16 mm home movies with his brother to a career that has spanned decades and touches on films including Top Gun, Batman Forever, Tombstone and The Doors. It promises real access to the thought process of a man who by turns is a weird free spirit and quiet, contemplative actor.
And it doesn't shy away from Kilmer's fight to be understood as his condition changed and sometimes removed his voice.
Val, directed by Ting Poo and Leo Scott, will be in US cinemas on 23 July and then hits Amazon Prime on 6 August.
