Though the success ratio is far from encouraging (especially for less cookie cutter shows such as Spaced and The IT Crowd), the flow of series adapted from UK TV for US screens continues. Community service superhero comedy drama Misfits is on its way to the Stateside Freeform channel with Dave Foley and Charlie Saxton as part of the cast.
Listed by Deadline as "inspired" by the Channel 4 series, the new show follows the basic concept of young offenders working away in a community service programme who are struck by lightning in a mysterious electrical storm. They all develop some sort of weird ability such as invisibility or super speed.
Kids In The Hall veteran Foley is playing a disheveled driver named Bernie, while Saxton will be Simon, described as intelligent, odd, and a lad who has trouble making friends. Sounds a lot like the British take on the character, as played by Iwan Rheon.
Producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are overseeing the show, which boasts a pilot script from Veronica Mars and iZombie contributing writer Diane Ruggerio-Wright. The first episode is now shooting in Vancouver.
