Few filmmakers create characters as instantly iconic as Quentin Tarantino – from Jules and Vincent Vega in Pulp Fiction, to the Bride in Kill Bill, Inglourious Basterds’ most inglorious bastard Colonel Hans Landa, and Django Unchained’s Django Freeman. The imminent arrival of Tarantino’s [Once Upon A Time In Hollywood](https://www.empireonline.com/movies/upon-time-hollywood/_ is about to give us two new protagonists, teaming Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt back up with the filmmaker for a 1969-set Hollywood adventure. As seen in the new issue of Empire, here’s an exclusive brand new image of the co-leads.
That’s DiCaprio as Rick Dalton, a Western TV star trying to find his big break in Tinseltown, and Pitt as Cliff Booth, his stunt double also trying to make the leap to the big screen. Like all of Tarantino’s protagonists, hints about their characters lie in those costumes. “Rick’s wearing a leather jacket that’ll make you feel strong, resilient – it helps you access your swagger,” says costume designer Arianne Phillips. And there’s a major detail in Booth’s accessories. “That’s a vintage Stuntmen’s Association belt,” Phillips reveals. “I saw it as a talisman for the character, and Brad and Quentin embraced that too.”
