Denzel Washington was, until a couple of weeks ago, all set to star in Tony Scott's **Unstoppable. **Then he withdrew, leaving the fate of the project somewhat in the air. Now he's back on track (sorry) with the news that he has resigned and is now all set to film in the autumn.
The film focuses on a runaway train filled with dangerous chemicals, and the veteran engineer (Washington) and young conductor (Chris Pine) who jump aboard to attempt to stop it. The script, by Mark Bomback, is based on a true story.
The trouble started when studio 20th Century Fox reportedly asked Scott to shave the budget down to $90million, requiring that both he and Washington take salary cuts. Washington refused and pulled out, but it's now said that, while on publicity duties for **The Taking of Pelham 123 **(also a Tony Scott film in which he stars), he read a new draft of the script and came to a fresh agreement on money (we're guessing he gets a share of the profits, but there's been no hint as to what the compromise was so that's pure speculation).
So Denzel's back on board, with Chris Pine still set to join him and Scott still in the director's chair. In short, nothing to see here, carry on.
