Fairy stories are back in a big way, competing with vampires, werewolves, zombies and other fantastical tales to be the latest Hot Hollywood Studio Trend. Leading the charge is Snow White, who is the subject of at least three currently developing movies, including takes from Brett Ratner and Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Now you can add Universal and director Rupert Sanders into the mix with Snow White and the Huntsman.
The script made the rounds of the studios this week with only Disney shutting the door on Sanders, producer Joe Roth and writer Evan Daugherty, since it already has its own fresh take, Snow and the Seve****n, in active development.
Universal finally won the trio’s heart and the rights to produce the movie, which presents a new take on the very old story collected by the Brothers Grimm. This is where we start hearing the traditional twinkly fairy tale music mixed with a certain well-known battle anthem{
And in case you’re wondering, no, Snow does not end up smooching her teacher: there’s still the prince to win her heart (though we’re hoping he’s worthy of the new, badass heroine)…
