Got a rom-com? Want someone to direct it? You could do a a lot worse than call Andy Tennant, the rom-com specialist whose last three movies – Hitch, Sweet Home Alabama and Fool’s Gold – have all made a lot of coin, and made a lot of couples swoon. (We won't mention Fools Rush In, out of courtesy...)
Mind you, if you’re thinking of calling Tennant to direct your rom-com, bear in mind that he’s going to be busy for the next year or so, after he sealed a deal to direct Chasing Harry Winston, an adaptation of the best-selling book by The Devil Wears Prada author, Lauren Weisberger. And if you can already see in your mind's eye a poster that says, 'From The Director of Hitch and The Author Of The Devil Wears Prada', then you're not alone. This thing could be huge.
The book – whose title refers to the prestigious American jewellers – focuses on three young women who vow to change their lives for the better over the course of a year. The movie will expand and focus on one of the storylines – it’s not clear which just yet, but Gina Wendkos is the screenwriter who’s in charge of that side of things.
The movie will be produced by Mandalay Pictures and distributed by Universal.
