There’s plenty you can watch on Netflix about serial killers. But soon, you’ll also be able to stream something about a supposed cereal-killer – a breakfast item that came along to revolutionise the very idea of the most important meal of the day: the Pop-Tart. Yes, Jerry Seinfeld’s directorial debut Unfrosted is a comedic telling of the invention of Kellogg’s beloved toaster-pastry, exploring how it quite literally popped up during the 1960s. It also stars Seinfeld in the leading role as the man trying to make it happen – and he’s assembled one hell of a comedy cast for his ensemble. Check out the first trailer here:

This looks like a peppy, poppy debut for Seinfeld behind the camera – spinning an exaggerated clash-of-the-titans tale out of the real-life rivalry between Kellogg’s and Post to reinvent the very notion of breakfast. And he’s clearly revelling in the ‘60s setting, from the costumes to the colour palette. Most jaw-droppingly, though, that cast list is absolutely bonkers – here it is in full.

As we reported recently, Hugh Grant is playing Tony the Tiger, and it looks like we’re getting physical representations of Snap, Crackle and Pop here too. Amy Schumer looks to be playing Seinfeld’s nemesis, while Melissa McCarthy is on Team Kellogg’s, helping to will the Pop-Tart into creation. Here’s the official synopsis: “Michigan, 1963. Kellogg's and Post, sworn cereal rivals, race to create a pastry that will change the face of breakfast. A tale of ambition, betrayal, sugar, and menacing milkmen, Unfrosted stars Jerry Seinfeld in his directorial debut.”

Catch Unfrosted when it hits Netflix on 3 May – and be sure to have a stack of your own Pop-Tarts on hand while you watch.
