This story feels like it could feature in a two-part (so far) article entitled Unexpected Places For Benny Safdie To Surface. Following the news that the Uncut Gems co/writer/co-director/actor will be part of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series comes word that he's boarding the adaptation of Judy Blume bestseller Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret.

Collider nabbed the news first, which has since been confirmed by production studio Lionsgate. The adaptation has The Edge Of Seventeen's Kelly Fremon Craigdirecting her own adaptation of the tome. The story follows Margaret Simon, a sixth grader who is questioning everything about adolescence and puberty, and is searching the universe for whatever answers she can find. With her mother and grandmother trying to guide her through a time when everything is changing, they too find that you never stop questioning your path and defining what is meaningful in your life...

Ant-Man's Abby Ryder Fortson is playing Margaret, with Rachel McAdams as her mother, Barbara, and Kathy Bates as Sylvia, her grandmother. Safdie has been cast as her father, Herb. “Benny has a truly amazing talent for naturalism and I’m elated to have his collaboration on this film," Fremon Craig says in a statement.

In addition to joining the Star Wars universe, Safdie will also appear in Paul Thomas Anderson's next film and in TV series The Curse with Emma Stone.
