How’s this for film synchronicity? On the same day that we report on Gabriele Muccino entering talks to direct supernatural romantic tale Adaline comes word that Uma Thurman and Jessica Biel have joined his current project, sports comedy Playing the Field.
All-round nice bloke Gerard Butler is starring in that one, playing a former football player (proper footie, not that American nonsense) who has lived a wild and crazy life. But he realises that his hi-jinks have kept him from bonding with his son, so he agrees to coach the boy’s team and get some quality father/son time.
Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), it also makes him the target for a pack of under-loved soccer moms, including Uma Thurman’s character. Biel, meanwhile, will play Butler’s ex-wife, who is preparing to marry her new man.
Robbie Fox, whose last produced screenplay was 1993’s Mike Myers comedy So I Married an Axe Murderer, is behind the script for this one, which Muccino is aiming to start shooting next month.
