It might have been ignored by the Oscars, but Bo Burnham's directorial debut, Eighth Grade has scored plenty of attention elsewhere, including a batch of nominations and other award wins. The nuanced comedy drama is headed to UK screens in April, and there's a new trailer online.
Eighth Grade features Elsie Fisher as 13-year-old Kayla Day, enduring the tidal wave of hormonal activity, social awkwardness and internet addiction as she navigates the final week of her time at Middle School.
The big transition to High School is looming, even as Kayla struggles with wanting to fit in with her peers while still doing her own thing, and her single dad Mark (Josh Hamilton) tries to wean her from a reliance on social media.
Burnham, who got his start as a teen YouTuber, has won plenty of praise for the authenticity and careful observation on display here. Eighth Grade finally makes it to the UK on 26 April.
