Following in the ass-kicking footsteps of Gina Carano, Ronda Rousey appears set to become the latest Ultimate Fighting champ to head for the Fast & Furious franchise, closing in on a deal for what is currently called **Fast & Furious 7.
James Wan is taking over directorial duties for the new film, which will follow directly on from the sixth instalment and see Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto and the gang plunged into what will likely be a mission of revenge after the death of one of their own at the end of that adventure.
Assuming she signs on, Rousey would take a relatively small supporting part that will let her do what she does best: cause bruises. With Michelle Rodriguez’ Letty back as part of the team, we’d imagine Rousey will have a serious challenge on her hands.
There are few confirmed details on the plot of the new movie, which is once more written by Chris Morgan, though we do know it’ll be set mostly in Los Angeles, albeit with a shoot pencilled in for Atlanta this autumn. Diesel, Rodriguez, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson and most of the crew should be back in action because what’s a Fast film without the whole crew? 2 Fast 2 Furious, that’s what, and nobody wants that.
It’s just the second high-profile role for Rousey, who will also be adding her knockabout skills to The Expendables 3, where she will of course be joining Harrison Ford as well as the returning cast.
