With less than four months to go before Iron Man – the first of this year’s big comic book movies – is released, the publicity drive for the Jon Favreau-directed movie is ramping up nicely, with the online arrival of two new shots from the film on Marvel.com
Truth be told, there’s nothing particularly revelatory about the shots, but it's always nice to see new from the film.
The first one is of Robert Downey Jr., as Iron Man’s inventor/alter-ego, Tony Stark, trying out the glove and arm technology of the Mk III Iron Man suit (that’s the red-and-gold number we’ve seen in the trailer and the posters). In fact, now we think about it, this is probably from the same sequence glimpsed in the trailer, when an intense-looking Stark, clad otherwise in normal clothing, fires off a repulsor blast from his armoured glove.
The second picture is a behind-the-scenes shot, in which Favs – in a lovely Hawaiian shirt – directs Downey in what may be Stark’s workshop. We’re guessing that the scene they’re talking about comes relatively early in the film, as the boot on the workdesk is grey, and likely from the Mk I armour, or a revised Mk II version.
With post-production still very much underway, it may be a while yet before we see any shots of Iron Man in action, or indeed glimpses of his nemesis, the Iron Monger, but these shots will do now to sate fans’ appetite for a movie that could well be one of the biggest hits of the summer.
