MTV reality star Lauren Conrad (Laguna Beach, The Hills) is about to see her teen novel LA Candy given the big screen treatment, if Twilight producers Temple Hill Entertainment get their way.
It's the story of 19 year old Jane Roberts who moves to Hollywood, becomes a reality TV star, and then has to adjust to living her life in the public eye. Gosh, where did Conrad get her inspiration? LA Candy was published in the States in the summer by Harpercollins, and has been on the New York Times bestseller list ever since. Two more books are planned for the series. Does Conrad "write" these books in the same way that Katie Price "writes" hers? We couldn't possibly speculate.
"Her book is an honest portrayal of what it must be like to set out to be normal, then sign on to become famous and eventually realise, wow, this isn't at all what I'd planned for myself," says Temple Hill's Marty Bowen. The project is currently out for writers and studios. Hey, Universal are looking for a script for their Barbie movie! Maybe this is a perfect fit?
