The X-Files 2 has just got bigger – and Yinnier.
Yes, the big-screen continuation of the popular sci-fi TV show (and sequel to 1998’s The X-Files Movie) starts shooting this month in Vancouver – and director Chris Carter has finally started adding new cast members to go along with David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, returning as Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.
And one of the new cast members is none other than the Big Yin himself, Billy Connolly. He’ll join Amanda Peet and Xzibit (benefiting now that Oliver Stone’s Pinkville has been placed on hold because of the writers’ strike) on the movie.
And we couldn’t be more delighted – Connolly, as well as being one of the finest stand-up ever, is an engaging and off-the-wall presence as an actor, and is exactly the sort of casting that inspires confidence in this arguably unnecessary sequel.
No word yet on who exactly Connolly, Peet or Xzibit will be playing, but The Hollywood Reporter indicates that the latter two will be playing FBI agents (possibly partners for Mulder & Scully at the movie’s beginning? After all, it would make sense if their partnership had dissolved over the years).
As ever, the truth is out there etc. etc. and we’ll find it. Just as soon as we’ve finished this banana. And checked our email. And our Facebook. And…
