True Lies TV Adaptation In The Works

True Lies

One for the Eventually Every Movie Will Become A TV Series list, the latest target for the rapacious maw of the high-concept TV machine is James Cameron's 1994 action-adventure True Lies.

The original, as you probably don't need to be told (it's slightly well known and successful even if it didn't earn money along the same lines as Cameron's other work), found Arnold Schwarzenegger as Harry Tasker, a fearless, globe-trotting, terrorist-battling secret agent has his life turned upside down when he discovers his wife Helen (Jamie Lee Curtis) might be having an affair with a used car salesman while terrorists smuggle nuclear war heads into the United States. After years of keeping his family in the dark as to his real job, he finds them brought into his high-octane world.

DC TV regular writer/producer Marc Guggenheim is developing the idea, with McG as executive producer and on to direct the pilot for the US Fox network. Cameron is also on as an executive producer, marshaling the support of his Lightstorm Entertainment company. The plan is to make a one-hour drama (with the same blend of slightly comedic elements), though obviously the family dynamics could be explored more thoroughly. All this is assuming that the show actually makes it beyond the pilot, but given the people involved, it certainly has a good chance.
