Given how popular and successful True Blood was for HBO, you might expect any future direction of the series to be focused on a follow-up. But with the original cast all busy doing other things, the channel has decided instead to pursue a reboot, with Riverdale and Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina's Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa developing a fresh take.
Derived from Charlaine Harris’ Southern Vampire Mysteries novels the original Blood ran between 2008 and 2014 and featured lashings of blood, sex and melodrama, all whipped up by show-runner Alan Ball. He's returning as an executive producer on the new show, which is largely a mystery for now. Aguirre-Sacasa is writing the pilot with NOS4A2's Jami O'Brien.
Whether any of the original stars – Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Alexander Skarsgård, Sam Trammell and Ryan Kwanten among them – will pop up at all remains to be seen.
