Troy Trailer Triumphant

This time it's war

It is without a doubt one of the most anticipated films of the year. Women will queue round the block because Brad Pitt, Orlando Bloom and Eric Bana are oiled up and prancing about in scanty clothing and the other half of the population will join them just to see the unprecedented carnage as two ancient powers collide in battle. The full trailer for Troy is now available online and both reasons for watching are present in abundance. Think of this trailer, if you will, as a game of two halves: the first, while showcasing the strapping male leads at their buffed-up best, is actually quite cringe-worthy in places with some appallingly hammy dialogue and a mixture of simpering glances and steely stares. The second half, though, is where it's at. Fleets of ships, swarms of hoplites and the mightiest army in the ancient world massing outside the gates of Troy. Watching the spectacle as the two forces collide is almost enough to have you screaming 'have at thee!' and charging around the office brandishing a stapler. So, despite some ropey dramatics, it is looking pretty good. Put in context, the story should fall nicely into place (that Homer really could spin a yarn) and there's no disputing that the visuals will simply take your breath away. See the trailer here.
