The Runaway Jury's in trouble with Schumacher and Connery off the case, and now another John Grisham adaptation, The Gingerbread Man, is facing problems. Polygram Filmed Entertainment have bought in their own editor to recut the film, directed by maverick filmmaker Robert Altman. The studio apparently want something a little more audience-friendly, rather than the offbeat mix that the man behind Short Cuts and The Player has created. Altman has been in touch with the Directors Guild's general counsel about what is happening with the picture, but producer Jeremy Tannebaum has assured the Hollywood Reporter that "This is the usual push-and-pull between the director and the studio ... I'm sure everybody will be happy in the end." Altman uncommercial and off-beat? Well I never.
