The surprise news broke earlier this month that Joseph Kosinski's follow-up to Tron: Legacy was suddenly gearing up for an autumn shoot. Now it looks as if the title may have been revealed too. Tweets from industry journal Production Weekly casually suggest that it's Tron: Ascension, as if everybody knew that already.
Joseph Kosinski’s TRON: ASCENSION is planning to film in Vancouver from Early-October 2015 thru February 2016. > > — Production Weekly (@prodweek) [March 30, 2015](https://twitter.com/prodweek/status/582587510615773185)
That may be a simply a place-holder production title, but speaking purely speculatively, it would certainly make sense given where we left off last time. [Tron Legacy spoiler klaxon] Olivia Wilde's Quora has ascended from the Grid to the really real world, and certain clues that Kosinski has already dropped might suggest other game characters are about to level up in a similar fashion.
"Tron 3 delivers on the promise of Tron: Legacy, particularly its final scenes," Kosinski promised back in 2013 while doing the rounds with Oblivion. "There's a big clue there as to where we'll go with the next one. There are also some characters we establish at the beginning of Tron: Legacy who have a much larger role in Tron 3."
Tron: Ascension, if that truly is its name, will shoot in Vancouver between October and February, according to current intel. Only Garrett Hedlund is confirmed as returning to the cast at this stage, but expect a flurry of further updates before the threequel gets started.
