Despite the backing of Bryan Singer, writer-director Michael Dougherty’s horror pic Trick ‘R Treat faced distribution difficulties, arriving in most territories straight to disc in 2007. Yet despite – and possibly because of – its struggles, the film found a loyal cult core audience and, at a panel following a screening of the film Monday night in LA (which you can see below), Dougherty announced he's developing a sequel.

The original film spins four interconnected tales of terror from one Halloween night, linked by Sam, a cloth masked trick-or-treater who everyone initially assumes is a child, but who turns out to be much more.

Legendary Pictures, which co-produced the first film under its old deal with Warner Bros., will once more step in to provide backing for the new outing, with Legendary CEO Thomas Tull taking part in a little stunt at the panel to announce the details.

Nothing is known about the new film yet, not even whether it will once more follow several linked stories or just focus on one tale of terror. Still, it’s good news for fans who have been hoping for more from Dougherty..
