At last year’s Cannes film festival,Luc Besson announced that he’d made a deal for three more films in the Transporter series, which to date have all starred Jason Statham as hard nut driver/fighter Frank Martin. As we suspected when the news broke, the new movies will feature someone else in the role of Martin{ =nofollow}, whose infalible rule is that he never opens the packages he transports - except always when he does just that.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Besson and co are planning a reboot of the franchise, flashing a green light on the fourth (or should that be new first?) movie while laying plans for two follow-ups. The new film will flash back in time to tell a Frank Martin origin story, presumably with a lot of the same fast cars, martial arts and encounters with hoodlums/ladies/lady hoodlums.

In keeping with lots of filmmaking these days, the new deal is with a Chinese partner, Fundamental Films, with all the co-production financing and distribution deals that implies, plus more content to appeal to Asian audiences with film shoots heading beyond the usual European locations. Someone fresh will be Frank, especially since Statham has since moved on to bigger and ideally better things, with Fast & Furious 7 due next year, but we will have to wait to find out who that is. Suggestions, as ever, below.
