2016's Train To Busan was such a compact, adept horror thriller that the idea of anyone trying to sequelise or follow up the film (let alone that still-mooted remake) would appear to be a bad one. But director Yeon Sang-ho has so far proved that wrong with animated prequel Seoul Station. And he's back with Peninsula, set four years after the events of the first movie. Check out the crazed latest trailer.
The story this time focuses on Jung-seok (Gang Dong-won), a soldier who previously escaped the diseased wasteland. He's forced to relive the horror when assigned to a covert operation with two simple objectives: retrieve and survive, with the promise of a big pay day. When his team unexpectedly stumbles upon survivors, their lives will depend on whether the best — or worst — of human nature prevails in the direst of circumstances.
Train To Busan Presents: Peninsula (to use its slightly hefty full title) promises a very different experience from the claustrophobia of the original, something more along the lines of Mad Max. The movie doesn't have a specified release date yet, but has a few European openings scheduled, so hopefully we'll learn soon when it'll hit the UK.
