Here's a jolly lark for a stormy Thursday morning. Whether you've been knee-deep in flood water or frazzled from transport chaos, allow us to briefly spirit you away to Paris and the French Riviera in the company of Pierce Brosnan and Emma Thompson. The trailer for The Love Punch has arrived. The grey pound has a lot to answer for.
As you'll just have seen if you made it to the end, this is a sort of domestic sit-com / international caper hybrid. Divorced couple Brosnan and Thompson have just waved their daughter off to university when Brosnan's pension collapses and their free and easy future - apart - suddenly looks in jeopardy. So, of course, they plan a heist to rip off the man responsible for their troubles, roping in Timothy Spall and Celia Imrie for weak-bladdered support.
Will Brosnan and Thompson find their extinguished love rekindled by the end? We couldn't possibly speculate. Slightly raised eyebrows aside, however, that's an undeniably fun cast. The director is Joel Hopkins, who previously made Last Chance Harvey with Thompson and Dustin Hoffman, so that's also very much working in The Love Punch's favour.
Hopkins wrote his own screenplay, and The Love Punch is out in the UK on April 18.
