If the exact nature of Juno Temple's relationship with Anne Hathaway in The Dark Knight Rises was left ambiguous, there's no doubt whatsoever about her sapphic stirrings in Jack And Diane**, the trailer for which has just come online.
Temple is Diane, and Riley Keough is Jack, two halves of a teenage couple who suddenly begin an intense lesbian affair, much to the evident displeasure of their respective families. Temple is the innocent one while Keough is the tough one, but it's Temple who fights to keep the lurrve alive when the relationship has to go long-distance.
It's also Temple whose "new emotions begin to cause inexplicable, violent changes to her body", which is presumably what all the trailer's oblique internal shots of muscle and hair are all about. Early reports about the film suggested a werewolf element, but it's unclear at this stage just how far the film is going to go with that. You'd probably be unwise to expect Juno Snaps.
Kylie Minogue is on-hand in a heavily tattooed supporting role, and she's also contributed to the soundtrack in tandem with Icelandic trip-hoppers múm. The writer/director is Bradley Rust Gray (The Exploding Girl), and in a surprise development, it turns out that The Brothers Quay (Institute Benjamenta, The Piano Tuner Of Earthquakes) have provided the queasy animated sequences.
Jack And Diane hits VOD in the US at the end of September, and gets a short theatrical release there from November 2. There's no word on a UK release so far.
