Based on the bestselling novel The English Teacher by former Israeli intelligence officer Yiftach Reicher Atir, spy thriller The Operative stars Martin Freeman and Diane Kruger. Check out the new trailer below.
Freeman plays Mossad agent handler Thomas, summoned from Germany to Israel when his former operative turned rogue spy Rachel (Kruger) vanishes while attending her father's funeral in London.
Her mission, at least before she disappeared, was to work against Iran's nuclear programme and the authorities are concerned she may now pose a threat. Thomas will have to retrace her steps and try to protect her.
Writer/director Yuval Adler also wrote the adaptation, and shot The Operative in Israel and Bulgaria last year. The film is out in the US in early August, with a UK date to be confirmed. Atir's novel is published in the UK by Penguin Books.
