Way back in the distant mists of time (2008, to be accurate), there was talk of David Fincher directing an animated anthology based on sci-fi/fantasy mag Heavy Metal. That didn't quite come to pass, but Fincher, in collaboration with Deadpool director Tim Miller is now backing a set of animated shorts that certainly share an NSFW flare with the Metal concept. Check out the trailer for Netflix's Love, Death + Robots...

When we say NSFW in this case, we mean it. Described as a collection of 18 "short, sweet, and lethal" stories showcasing a wide range of styles and techniques from animators around the world, it'll explore racism, war, free will, and human nature, all through the medium of crazed visuals. Just make sure the kids don't see the word "robots" and dive in...

"Love, Death & Robots is my dream project, it combines my love of animation and amazing stories," Miller says in a statement. "Midnight movies, comics, books, and magazines of fantastic fiction have inspired me for decades, but they were relegated to the fringe culture of geeks and nerds of which I was a part. I’m so f—ing excited that the creative landscape has finally changed enough for adult-themed animation to become part of a larger cultural conversation."
