The shocking and sad deaths of Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds within a day of each other over the Christmas period gave this year's festive season a gloomier air. In response to the losses, HBO has brought forward the air date of a documentary about the mother-daughter pair, and the trailer for Bright Lights can be watched below.

Described by HBO Documentary Films president Sheila Nevins as "a love story", it was originated as a joint protect between the two to chronicle their close, loving, but often chaotic relationship and directed by Alexis Bloom and Fisher Stevens. “Carrie wanted to make Bright Lights for Debbie and Debbie wanted to make it for Carrie,” says Nevins.

The film includes footage of the women discussing their lives, and is honest about Carrie's struggles with mental health and Debbie's fears and concerns about aging. It carries a more poignant feeling in the wake of their death, but also offers an honest look at their lives.

HBO will show the documentary this Saturday, 7 January, with the film arriving in the UK on 10 January via Sky Atlantic.
